Retrieving my Google Data Analytics professional certificate
So, I recently received my certificate on the popular Google Data Analytics professional certificate program on Coursera (May 2022). The program is basically a collection of 8 courses (7 courses + 1 capstone project track) for beginners in Google analytics. This post isn’t to share my review of the program, but rather to share how I retrieved my certificate after completing the program.
To start with, I never thought retrieving the certificate was going to be a problem, hence, I wasn’t bothered about accessing the certificate immediately after my completion of the program. After a few months, I decided it was time to update my LinkedIn profile, and I needed to add the certificate of the program to my profile. However, I quickly found out the course wasn’t listed under my “completed” course tab on Coursera.
I also realized that the course is listed under my purchases and listed as “inactive” which raised a red flag for me as it wasn’t granting me access to the course.
At first, I was a bit furious, realizing I might need to reactivate my Coursera Plus subscription, which costs about $50 with taxes, to retrieve the certificate. Searches online yielded no results as I couldn’t find any published article on it from someone facing a similar issue. As a final resort, I decided to give the customer support a trial and reached out to the support about the problem I’d been facing.
The Solution
Viola! The support gave me a response within a few minutes stating that I’d need to verify my identity to claim my certificate. I had to provide a picture of my ID in addition to a photo verification, using my camera to verify my identity. Immediately after this was completed, I received an email granting me access to the certificate.
Just in case you encounter the same problem, do not panic as you can easily follow a similar step to retrieve your certificate.
